About 7 Seconds -
7SECONDS formed on January 17th, 1980 in Reno, NV by the Marvelli brothers using their punk rock names "Kevin Seconds” and “Steve Youth”. The band played their first show on March 2, 1980. While not the first to describe themselves as "hardcore punk" (that credit goes to D.O.A.), 7SECONDS is arguably the first band to self-label themselves as primarily "hardcore.” They became the leaders of one of the unlikeliest music scenes to sprout up during the pioneering days of American Hardcore which they dubbed Skeeno. Embracing the DIY attitude of this blossoming underground music scene the band not only worked on their music, but also put out fanzines, and promoted shows with out of town bands ranging from Black Flag to Minor Threat. 7SECONDS released their debut single “Skins, Brains and Guts” on Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label in 1981. In 1983 the band added drummer Troy Mowat to record their 2nd ep “Committed for Life”. That core lineup of Kevin, Steve, and Troy would remain intact until the bands official breakup in 2018.

After finding success playing shows down in Los Angeles, 7SECONDS was approached by the Better Youth Organization (BYO), founded by Shawn and Mark Stern to record their debut album. With little money they entered Prospective Sound in Los Angeles, CA. in early 1984 to record their classic debut LP- The Crew. The album took 3 days to record and mix, with the tracking being done live in 1 or 2 takes and the mix being done in a single day. The Crew ended up as 18 songs clocking in a hair above 20 minutes. The album propelled the band into the National spotlight allowing them to tour North America for 2 months during the Summer of 1984. They would go on to record 8 more full length albums including a few on major labels. The band quickly became an international success touring multiple times in both North America and Europe, including every major music festival during their existence. They became recognized as one of the classic American Hardcore bands who’s influence as Jello Biafra states – “Set the template” for hundreds of likeminded bands who came after.
